John Zurier recent paintings
March 21–April 29, 2022
at Lawrence Markey
200 E. Grayson St. No.104
San Antonio, TX
Lawrence Markey is pleased to present the exhibition recent paintings by John Zurier, on view March 21 through April 29, 2022.
This is John Zurier’s third solo exhibition at Lawrence Markey, and will feature ten paintings selected by the artist, most created between 2020 and 2022.
Maintaining studios in Berkeley, CA and northern Iceland has enriched Zurier’s practice; an approach to abstraction that prioritizes space, light, color, atmosphere and mood. Zurier says, “When I’m painting, I’m looking for a mood which is connected to air, which is connected to light, which is all connected to a color and to the brushwork that delivers it, and then all of that is attached and enmeshed in a surface.” *
Zurier has exhibited extensilvely, including: the Whitney Biennial in 2002, the California Biennial at the Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach, CA, 2010-2011, the 30th São Paulo Biennial in São Paulo, Brazil in 2012, UC Berkeley Art Museum (2014 and 2018), and recently at Moderna Museet Malmö, Sweden (2021). His paintings are represented in collections which include the Berkeley Art Museum, Colby College Museum of Art, Waterville, ME, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and University of California, San Francisco Art Collection. Zurier was awarded the John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship in 2010.
The gallery is located at Pearl, 200 E. Grayson St., No.104, in the Full Goods building. Find No.104 along the breezeway running parallel to Grayson Street.
